Respect to Harrison Ford bringing out a new Indiana Jones movie….looking forward to it for sure.

I loved these films as a kid and saw them all at the cinema.

Have a good load of films to watch so will post more reviews very soon.

American Gangster

American Gangster was quite an interesting film – maybe spoiled because I had seen the documentary on Mr Lucas prior – but full of intensity brought to the screen by Denzel Washington.

Chronicalling the life and times of Frank Lucas, no.1 heroin kingpin in America, American Gangster portrays things in a seemingly matter-of-so way.

It’s worth a watch for sure, but I found it slightly over rated.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

Well, it came out at Christmas, beating ‘The Santa Claus’ and ‘Home Alone’ by a long chalk as the favourite.

Chevy chase is just brilliant in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and the Christmas lights + bob sleigh are hilarious.

Not to mention the turkey.

In any case I great thumbs up and favourable IMDB.com reviews.

Lucky You

Lucky You features a redneck type Las Vegas gambler who has poker skill. Sounds like a great film, with Duvall starring also but the lead role played by Eric Bana basically sucks. He looks like something from Roadhouse with Patrick Swazye, 1980s all the way.

The script is mediocre, only for me the shots of the Bellagio card room where I’ve played and cameos by top poker players such as Pham, Negreanu, Harman and Sammy Farha.

The movie sucks in a word. If you want to see the Bellagio card room, it’s a good view. That’s it.

Uncle Buck – an oldy, but a goody

Uncle Buck is somewhat of a childhood memory or even teenage memory. I remember watching some dodgy pirate of it and it turned out to be a great film, so much so I bought the DVD.

Produced in 1990, it features the late John Candy, a few lovable actor.

He’s the disfunctional Uncle who has to look after the kids at short notice and does an excellent job but with much comedy.

Heat

Heat by Michael Mann is an outstanding film – from the man who brought you Miami Vice, Heat just knocks your socks off in script, action and acting. Starring Kilmer, De Niro, Pacino and other famous names, it is nothing more than the perfect heist movie.

The helicopter scene is outstanding and the music/effects first class on a quality home cinema setup.

Sadly the soundtrack CD came with vocals, when the instrumental ‘helicopter scene’ music is fantastic.

Sliding Doors

Althought released in 1998, I watched Sliding Doors again for a 3rd time.

Gweyneth Paltrow is excellent in this moving, playing the unlucky woman who has a cheating boyfriend and loses her job in the same day….Sliding Doors is about what would happen if she caught the earlier tube home rather than the later one, and how the ‘sliding doors’ of the tube would make all the difference.

Funnily, Gwyneth goes through men like toilet paper in real life, on some sort of ‘destiny’ cruise to find the right man. Meanwhile all the ones she’s tryed-before-buying get the elbow…..for the new guy. Sounds like infidel castro to me….

Goodfellas

It’s an older movie, but a fantastic film.

Maybe it’s the combination of a great script with great actors who all play their parts perfectly.

The music, the drama and that the story changes so much.

For anyone who hasn’t see Goodfellas, they haven’t lived!

Probably my favourite film of all time.

Aliens Vs Predator (2004)

An overlooked film, Aliens Vs Predator has some excellent action and an interesting script.

Apart from all the marines vs Aliens vs Predator action, it appears the script writers have employed the pyramids on mars idea suggesting the Predators used the humans in ancient times as bait for the Aliens. The aliens were in turn what the Predators hunted to ‘prove themselves’. Everything has been locked away inside the pyramid and of course, humans being nosey buggers they are, decide to investigate and open a big can of worms….

Fantastic action means you forget the lack of depth that action films are renown for not having.

This is just excellent action and fun from beginning to end….must watch.

Pusher

Possibly my favourite all time movie, Pusher tells the story of Frank and his drug crazed life. It’s realistic and gritty, fantastic acting and they should really show this to kids at school…drug useage/involvement would drop dramatically.

The drug scene is in fact very much as depicted in the film, and some Danish have commented life is like this for many Danes.

A must watch, as are Pusher 2 and Pusher 3. Sadly Frank does not feature in Pusher 2 or 3.
